Choice

The connection between “The Contents of a Dead Man’s Pocket” and the Poem “You Want a Social Life, with Friends” explains how life can not always be fair and you have to choose between certain things in your life that you have. You can not always have two things at once. In “The Contents of a Dead Man’s Pocket” Tom has to choose between work and his wife. In the poem it explains that you have to choose between love, friends, and work. The theme that both texts have in common is that in life you have to choose certain things over others. For example Tome had to make the choice of his wife or work and he decided to work, but later in the end he realized that his wife was more important to him. He knew that he was slowly loosing his wife and that he wished he had spent more time with her. The theme connects to my life because sometimes I have to decide which things are more important to me like homework or friends. Most of the time i will pick homework because it is the thing that will get me the furthest.

Risk my Life?

I don't think I would ever risk my life for something like a piece of paper or anything that is non-living. If I were ever to risk my life, it would be for someone that I really cared about, like a family member or a friend. A person would mean so much more to me if I lost them then a object. If I were to loose someone that I cared about it would really impact me because I loved them so much and it is always hard to loose someone you really care about. If I ever had to risk my life to save them I defiantly would.

Contents of a Dead Mans Pocket

Tom Benecke decided to go out on the ledge when his yellow paper flew out of the window. When he was on the ledge he decided to slowly slid over to when the paper was and grab it. he relized later while still on the ledge that he was terrified and that he couln'd handle being on the ledge because he thought he was going to die.
If I were Tom Benecke I would have never gone out on the ledge in the first place, but if I were to go out I would have changed how he closed the window shut. I would have kept it open so that when I got back I would be able to crawl back in. Also I would not have looked down when I was reaching for the paper because I know that it would be the thing to scare me. The plot would change because of my decicion because I would not have been afraid and also I would not have had to try to punch the window open which almost killed him. this is how I would have acted if the paper flew out.

Homework or Friends

To me friends are very important because they mean the world to me and I consider some of them my family. If I had to choose between friends and a giant project I would have to choose my project because I'm in high school and I have to take everything seriously now, and also because I could see my friends anytime I want. They will always be there to hang out with but I would probably only get one chance at the project. If I was in freshmen year I probably would go with my friends instead, but I now have to take school seriously.

Paralyzed With Fear

The one time I was paralyzed with fear was the time when my grandma took out the vacuum hose and was going to hit us with it, when I was five, because we were in trouble. She usually would just hit us with a belt, her shoe, or her hand, but this time it was something hard, and I knew it was going to hurt. I couldn't move when she grabbed my arm and started beating me and my sister for something we didn't even do. It hurt so bad because she was using all her force. Afterward I couldn't move because I though that she was going to hit us again, but she didn't. she started using the vacuum hose all the time after that. When my mom found out that she was hitting us she told CPS and they put us in a different foster home, but not with family this time.

TV Show Plot

This weekend I watched Dora the Explorer with my niece. Plot is the order of events and when they happened. The first thing that happened was that dora herd all the puppies trapped in their cages and had to go help. She had to go past the crocidile river and hop over the crocidiles. Then she had the go over the troll birdge by answering a riddle and solving a puzzle. Swiper tryed to steal boot's boot and dora had to tell him "swiper no swiping!" They had to match the shapes on the path to finish it to cross it. Finally she reached the puppies and released them from their cage.

Lifeguarding

Yesterday I went to work. I work as a lifeguard. It took 45 housr of training that lasted about a week and a half, it was really boring but we had to pay attention because we had to take tests and learn rescuses. At work a couple of seniors who won a competition for cooking got to have a pool party. There was a lot of food like; chips, soda, pizza, breadsticks, and cookies. That means that there was a ton of bees and ants! There was so many ants that there wasn't one spot of ground that wasn't coverered in ants. No one could step anywhere without ants crawling up there legs. I had to get the hose and spray down the ground for half and hour and then afterward there was still a ton of ants everywhere. After 5 minutes the same amount of ants where on the floor. I finally gave up, but i had a good time at work that day because of all the people and the food!

College

When I graduate high school I want to have a 4.0 GPA, with my diploma. I hope that I can have a good college that I can go to. I would really like to go to a college like UCSD or SDSU. It would be really good if I could maintain a 3.5 while in college. I never want to fail at anything in College. I will try extremely hard like I do now. Maybe after I graduate from a 4 year I can get excepted in Med school to become an anesthesiologist. I want to have a very successful life.

My Memorable Birthday

My most memorable birthday was when I went to help ouy my friend in eighth grade for our D.C. trip. She was raising money to go on the trip so we were have something called a funfest where a bunch of elementry students come and we have games, music, prizes, and other activities like contests. I didn't think I would have any fun because it was my birthday and I had to spend time with a lot of little kids for 5 hours, but my friend janeth and her brother were both there with me and we played with all the little kids, and I got to host the hola hoop contest which was a lot of fun, handed out tickets for prizes, and taking kids to pal games or ride the little bikes. I had so much fun that I almost forgot it was my birthday so when I got home I was surprised to see my house sitting there with balloons and a cake. It was a good birthday.

My Embarrassing Moment

One of my most embarrassing moments was when one day I was in my house and we were all sitting at the table telling funny stories about things that happened to us, and we were laughing so hard that we were all spitting! I got up to get some juice and someone said something so funny right when I had taken a big gulp of juice and I had to laugh so hard that I spit all my juice on our staff who was sitting across from me. It got on all of her paperwork and, her jacket and on her face. Then after I spilled the whole cup of juice on the table and I was still laughing so hard that I could move to clean it up. It was really funny because my staff got kind of mad but then later we were both laughing about it.

My Crazy Weekend

This weekend I went on pass with my family. We went to our house and I hung out with all my family. Then I went and spent some time with some of my friends. We decided to go to Taco Bell to eat and then when we came out our car wouldn’t start. We had to get a jump start from someone passing by. Then we went to buy a new battery for the car because we were afraid that we wouldn’t be able to start the car again now that we had it running, so right after we got our food we went right to the auto shop and bought a battery which we got a deal on. Later we went home and had dinner with all my family together.

My First Day as a Sophomore

My first day of school was really fun. I got to see all my old teachers from last year who I haven't seen all summer. I also got a new teacher named Ms. Davis who I really like and is a lot of fun. The only boring part of my first day of school was talking about the syllabuses in each class, because they were really boring and I already knew everything from last year. My favorite teacher to go back and see was Mr. Fenick and Mr. Walker because even though their classes are kind of boring they like to try to make things fun for everyone. I’m excited to be taking new subjects and learning new things, but i feel like this will be the year where i have the most work. I can’t wait to be an upperclassmen. After school at lunch I got to talk to some of my friends who i hadn't really talked to all summer so it was good to catch up with everyone. I think I’m going to be very busy this year.
