Fourth Quarter Goals

My goals for this quarter is to try to get a 4.0 GPA. I tried to get it last quarter, and i was really close but my Spanish grade brought it down. I made a bet with Beedle this quarter for one dollar that I could turn in all my work by the end of the quarter one week before its over. I know I can do it. I finally got am A in Priester's, and I know I can make it again. I am excited for this quarter because I am really going to get a 4.0.

What I Learned in the 3rd Quarter of English 10

This quarter i have learned a lot more. At first it seemed like we were just reviewing everything that we had already learned from our freshmen year, but then it started to get a lot harder. We went deeper into the subjects. The first thing we worked on was symbolism and allegory. Those two were the hardest things for me to learn and understand. Poetry was easy and fun. We learned all about imagery and figurative language within the poetry. We made posters and learned about different parts of figurative language like Idioms, similes, and metaphors. First and second person was easy. I remembered everything we had learned about it from last year which made it easy for me. I am glad that we reviewed everything from our freshmen year and went deeper into it because it helped me to better understand every that we had learned.

“Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” Breaking News

Breaking News! A Vietnam soldier by the name of Billy Boy Watkins died today, April 13, 1968 at 3:27, from fright. Apparently the soldier stepped on a land mine and was seriously injured. Fortunately the injury was not fatal. When the soldier reached the medical tent he was in great fear for his life, the soldier had a fear that he was going to die. This stress caused the soldier to have a heart attack which killed him. I was a great loss for his family and his team. A service is to be held in his honor in one week for his friends and family. We are all grateful for the soldiers’ efforts in Vietnam. Coming up a breaking story….

CAHSEE Reflection

Today we took the English portion of the CAHSEE. I was nervous at first because I didn't think I was prepared. When we got into the auditorium I didn't know haw hard the test was going to be. Reading the stories and answering the questions made me less tense about it, because they were not so hard. When I got to the essay portion of the test I knew I was going to be good because Ms. Priester helped us to prepare for that part before in class but with a different part. The prompt was not hard, and I did great. I wrote five paragraphs, and each one sounded extremely good. I was so happy that I was prepared for this part of the test. After and hour and a half we took a break and ate doughnuts that Ms. Priester brought for us, it was kind of fun. The second portion of the test was easier then the first, because it was just more stories we had to read and answering simple questions. Some of the stories were boring but one or two were interesting. I am more nervous for the math part of the test tomorrow because I am not as strong in math as I am in English. I am presumptuous that I will pass the math because I took more time to prepare for it then I did for the English part. Mr. Fenick has been a huge help to all of us by having his after school preps. These helped us to prepare for the math section and to help us remember simple concepts that most of us forgot. I am grateful to have the support of these teachers.

“Where Have You Gone, Charming Billy?” Enlist Paragraph

When I am 18 I think that I would want to enlist in the military. The military has many things to offer. There are veterans rights and benefits that would be good to have afterward, but I would mainly be doing it to help other people. If I were to enlist in the army it would be to protect other people, and to have the opportunity to help other people even in other countries. I think it would be a good opportunity to learn many things like discipline and honor. People who are in the military are usually more respected and looked up to by others. One thing I would not want to happen would for me to be drafted. Being drafted is forcing someone into war with out them being willing. People who are really against war could be drafted and never want to go in it, but would be forced. Wars traumatize many people and if I didn't want to go into a war I would not want to be drafted.

Primary and Secondary Sources Comparison

Primary and secondary sources are similar in only a few ways. They are similar because they are both sources of information where someone gets there knowledge from. They are more different then they are similar. A primary source is different because it is information from a direct source. An example of a primary source would be an autobiography, diary, personal essays, or an interview. Secondary sources are a source that is a second hand account, and the author of it was not there for the accounts. Examples of secondary sources are biographies, history books, and newspapers. Primary and secondary sources are helpful because they are usually a good source of information and are extremely helpful when someone is in need of information.

Feelings about the CAHSEE

This year I am taking the CAHSEE (High School Exit Exam) and I am so nervous. I know that I will do good because I have been going to all the CAHSEE preps that Mr. Fenick has held for us. In the preps there has olny been about 4 or 5 kids that have shown up to each one. I hope that the other kids who did not come to the preps do good. I really hope that I do good on it the first time because I don't want to have to take it over again next year in my junior year. I cant wait until this is over so that we do not have to do any more PLATO in our English class for warm-ups because they are starting to get a little boring and even though I am learning many things from them that I should already know , I would rather be doing more interesting things for class. I know that I am going to do good though. I know that I am prepared for it, that morning I am going to wake up early in the morning and make sure I have a good breakfast.
