Symbolism and Allegory Unit Reflection
Over the past few weeks our English 10 class has been studying about sybolism and allegory. We have studied a lot about symbolism. We have read stories and written paragraphs tyo learn and show our understanding of it. We also learned alot about allegory. For this we read a play called "Animal Farm", it was very interesting. Then we made graphic organizers about the charcters and allegory. my favorite assignment was makeing the graphic organizer about all the characters in "Animal Farm". It was fun because we got to make them with partners and we also got to compare all the characters of the story to a trait that many different people have. I think that I learned a lot about sybolism and allegory in this unit. Our whole class did a great job!

San Pasqual Academy Dragons Symbolism

The San Pasqual Academy mascot is the Dragon. We are the dragons because the dragon symbolizes strength and power. San Pasqual is a strong place to be because of all the people and support we give to each other and the support we get from the adults on campus. We are a campus of strong students and leaders. The dragon is the best mascot for our school because we are not only good students but we have many other things that show strength in our school, like athletics. Our campus is full of student athletes who put all their determination into there passion for sports. I am proud to be a dragon because I love to represent my school and everyone in it.

“Through the Tunnel” Foster Youth Initiation

Even though they don’t have to swim through a tunnel like Jerry in “Through the Tunnel” by Doris Lessing, foster youth are initiated into/out of the foster care system. The initiation of foster youth entering and exiting the Foster System is when a foster youth is taken away from their families they are usually put into a temporary placement in which they are there for about two months until they can find longer term placement. The youth are then usually moved around from placement to placement until they are emancipated from the system. Foster youth tend to miss a large amount of school and are affected by it in the long run. Going through the system for some youth is a experience that helps them to mature faster and to become more independent as them come into adulthood. The youth have to overcome many hard obstacles to become successful adults.

“Through the Tunnel” Prove Yourself Paragraph

When I was seven years old I was living at my foster parents who lived in a small apartment complex in San Diego and all my friends from the complex were doing things to prove that they were brave like riding their bikes over ramps and stealing fruit from the neighbors trees. They were calling me a scardy cat so I decided that I needed to prove that I was more brave then all of them. I decided to climb our giant tree we had in the middle of the complex, which was taller then all the buildings, and jump off and land on my feet. I started to climb the tree and when I was about ten feet off the ground I started to get scared, but I knew I couldn't back down. When I got to the top everyone was yelling for me to jump. I looked at the ground, took a deep breath, and jumped. When I hit the ground my feet were the first thing that hit the ground and then my knees buckled and I fell on my stomach. All my breath in my lungs came out and i got the wind knocked out of me. I couldn't breath or talk for about a whole minute. It was so painful and crazy that I knew it was the dumbest thing I had ever done. I felt unaccomplished, but in the end I knew that I really was the bravest of them all. Looking back on the experience I regret doing it because I know now that I didn't have to prove myself to anyone.

House Sybolism

A symbol that represents my house, Girls 102, would be a tree. To most people a tree is just something that grows in nature, but to our house it represents us because a tree has many leaves that is like our house because we have many different people that make up and help our house. All the branches of the tree are all our connections to each other and how close some of us are. Our house is like a giant tree because we are always growing together and becoming stronger together. Girls 102 is a tree.
